Welcome back everyone to another Sundays with Sarah.

I hope that everyone has enjoyed a pleasant and safe holiday season and that everyone received what they wanted for Christmas. As another year has started and 2012 has now made its place in history forever, we now look forward to what lays ahead.

So for my post this week I will be reviewing some upcoming movies for 2013

Iron Man 3

In Marvel's "Iron Man 3," Tony Stark/Iron Man finds his world reduced to rubble by a malevolent enemy and must use his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him as he seeks to destroy the enemy and his cohorts. Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against Mandarin an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Iron Man 3 is jammed packed of special effects, new CGI and a darker world than the previous 2 films. This one shows the vulnerability of Iron Man/Tony Stark and how his own life is tested.  Rating: 4/5

Star Trek: Into Darkness

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

For this installment of the next generation of Trek movies, I am disappointed in the overall plot of the film and the lacking of ingenuity. Although like previous films Trek films filled with nothing but special effects, the acting though is not at its best. All I can say is "Over-Hyped"  Rating: 2/5

The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby follows would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super-rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

As the saying goes: the book is better than the movie.  Rating: 3/5

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

Based on the huge best-selling series by Rick Riordan, Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon, continues his epic journey to fulfill his destiny, as he teams with his demigod friends to retrieve the Golden Fleece, which has the power to save their home and training ground, Camp Half-Blood. Like the first film Percy Jackson delivers an outstanding cast of actors and like the books, is very well done.  Rating: 4/5

The World's End

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell-bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

This film is an odd ball of films mixing in a bit of modern style into the genre of "Pirates of the Caribbean" but in like some movies this one is a true DISASTER. The plot is grainy at best and the cast not that stellar. Although there are some key points in the file that show merit , it still falls short of a good drama.  Rating: 3/5

So there you have it. Just a small review on some upcoming films for the new year. Don't take my word for it though; I've only worked in Film and Television for 20 years.
