Memory Zero by Keri Arthur

Memory Zero:
For Sam Ryan, life began at the age of fourteen. She has no memory of her parents or her past. For the ten years that Sam's been with the State Police, she's searched for clues to her identity. But it's as if all mention of her family has been deliberately wiped off the system. Everything changes the night she agrees to meet her missing partner, Jack, and barely survives his attempt to kill her. Charged with his murder, Sam finds herself accepting help from Gabriel Stern-a shapeshifter with secrets of his own. As Sam delves into her partner's death, it soon becomes clear that the key to surviving the present lies in unraveling the threads of her past-and discovering not just who she is, but what she is . . .

This was an incredible, action-packed beginning to Keri Arthur's Spook Squad trilogy. Keri adds a touch of science-fiction to her books that is never overwhelming and always manages to intensify the story itself; I am not a huge science-fiction fan, but I truly enjoy it in Keri's writing. Her characters were interesting and kept the book moving at a fast pace. Some questions were answered within this book, while others remain a mystery--and I'm definitely looking forward to Generation 18.

Samantha is a good cop, but when her partner of five years tries to kill her, the reputation she built for herself is destroyed. And when she tries to prove to everyone that there is more going on, a more sinister reason behind the attack, she has to put her trust in a stranger, Gabriel. Gabriel is a shapeshifter and works for another law enforcement agency, one that has the power to change Sam's life forever. He's also hiding more than he is willing to reveal, making it hard for someone like Sam to trust. With no memory of her past or parents, Sam quickly becomes entwined in a world of conspiracy and clones as she searches for the answers that will lead her to the truth. Trusting the wrong person could get her killed, and the only person she trusted enough to get close was her partner and he betrayed her. Slowly she begins to change as her and Gabriel are thrown together in a fight to save the lives of others, and their own.
