Bloodthirsty by Flynn Meaney

Bloodthirsty:
Some vampires are good. Some are evil. Some are faking it to get girls. Awkward and allergic to the sun, sixteen-year-old Finbar Frame never gets the girl. But when he notices that all the female students at his school are obsessed with a vampire romance novel called Bloodthirsty, Finbar decides to boldly go where no sane guy has gone before-he becomes a vampire, minus the whole blood sucking part. With his brooding nature and weirdly pale skin, it's surprisingly easy for Finbar to pretend to be paranormal. But, when he meets the one girl who just might like him for who he really is, he discovers that his life as a pseudo-vampire is more complicated than he expected. This hilarious debut novel is for anyone who believes that sometimes even nice guys-without sharp teeth or sparkly skin-- can get the girl.

In this debut novel by Flynn Meaney, are pages filled with humor and a story of what every teenager hopes to accomplish: to be someone else. Flynn’s story comes to life as it is told through Finbar’s voice and reading from a teenage guy’s perspective was hilarious during certain points in the book. It is a book about the importance of self discovery and being true to yourself in order to be honest with those you care about. Finbar was an outcast in his old school, pale, skinny and quiet, while his twin brother, Luke, is everything Finbar’s not; muscled, athletic and tanned. When their family moves, Finbar decides that the only way he will ever get the girls is to become a vampire, and this leads to even more trouble when he meets a girl, Kate, who seems to have no idea that he is a vampire but likes him anyway. Finbar discovers that the rumors of his supposed vampirism have almost completely circled the school after he sticks up for a boy who is being bullied by one of the worst bullies in the school. Jenny, his best friend honestly believes that he is a vampire and adds fuel to the fire when she asks Finbar to turn her. Finbar becomes more confident as his relationship with Kate develops. But Kate his hiding things from her past and they both must learn to tell the truth in order for their relationship to survive.

  2. I haven't heard of this one but I'm definitely adding it to my list. I love a book that can poke fun at the vampire genre without being insulting:) The romantic element sounds sweet and now I want to know what things Kate is hiding. Great review Amy!
